Plastic-eating Enzymes

Another plastic positive news story. The concept of plastic eating enzymes isn’t new, there have been stories about this around for a while, but this week the University of Portsmouth have announced that they have created an enzyme “cocktail” that is capable of digesting plastic …

6 times faster!!

The process works “..by digesting PET plastic, returning it to its original building blocks. This allows for plastics to be made and reused endlessly, reducing our reliance on fossil resources such as oil and gas.”

Here’s a link to more information about how this has been achieved

This could present a “revolution in plastic recycling, creating a potential low-energy solution to tackle plastic waste.”

We like good news!
